• Thoughts on an 8-4 Rangers loss

That was quite a bleah game. At least the Rangers didn't get shut out. At

  • Texas Rangers wait too long to rally, fall to Cincinnati Reds

The Texas Rangers scored four runs but the Cincinnati Reds scored eight runs. The Rangers had allowed first inning runs in every game of this homestand thus far until today but that meant today’s starter Michael Lorenzen only waited until the second inning for the Reds to take an early 2-0 lead to force the flailing bats to press even further. And press they did. Were it not for a leadoff double in the fifth inning off the bat of Josh Smith, the Rangers would have been on no-hitter watch until...

  • Peagle Power! Texas Rangers go back above .500 with win over Cincinnati

The Texas Rangers scored twice while the Cincinnati Reds scored once. Before joining the Rangers, Nathan Eovaldi’s most recent stint was with Boston where in his final three seasons there, he never averaged more than 1.7 walks per nine innings. Indeed, in 2021, Eovaldi led the league in fewest walks per nine. It’s startling therefore that Eovaldi walked five batters tonight after walking five batters in his last outing and was walking nearly four per game this season. But Eovaldi also walked 2.9...

  • Sborz activated, Anderson optioned

The Texas Rangers have activated pitcher Josh Sborz from the injured list, it was announced today. To make room for Sborz on the active roster, the Rangers have optioned pitcher Grant Anderson to AAA Round Rock. In addition, the team announced last night that Jared Walsh cleared waivers, was outrighted to AAA Round Rock, rejected the assignment, and is now a free agent. Sborz was expected back at some point this week, with the question being how many rehab appearances he would make. The answer...

  • 12-12 - Rested Rangers perhaps too relaxed in 4-0 loss to Mariners

The Texas Rangers didn’t score a run but the Seattle Mariners scored four runs. M’s superstar Julio Rodriguez sort of famously had not yet hit a home run thus far during his struggles to begin the 2024 campaign. That lasted less than half of the series opener between the two top teams in the AL West as Rodriguez and Cal Raleigh each hit a two-run blast off of a rather pedestrian Dane Dunning. Meanwhile, the Texas bats did next to nothing — three total hits on the night, in fact — against Seattle...

  • Travis d’Arnaud’s big day dooms Texas Rangers in opener from Atlanta

The Texas Rangers scored three runs but the Atlanta Braves scored two runs with Travis d’Arnaud pitching in for six by himself. Not much to say about this one. The Braves are a good team — maybe the best team if their pitching holds up — and apparently that includes an infinite supply of dingers from their No. 2 catcher. With 2023 All-Star backstop Sean Murphy on the IL, the Braves have been turning to 12-year veteran Travis d’Arnaud and tonight he hit three home runs — including a grand slam —...

  • Texas Rangers lineup for April 17, 2024

Texas Rangers lineup for April 17, 2024 against the Detroit Tigers: starting pitchers are Dane Dunning for the Rangers and Tarik Skubal for the Tigers. The Rangers square off again against the Detroit Tigers way too early in the day. With lefty Tarik Skubal going for the Tigers, Ezequiel Duran is at first base and Davis Wendzel is at third base. Lineup: Semien — 2B Seager — SS Langford — DH Garcia — RF Heim — C Duran — 1B Carter — LF Wendzel — 3B Taveras — CF 12:10 p.m. Central start time. The...
