A woman from Centerville has been charged with animal cruelty after allegedly beating dogs that were in her care.
The operators of a Hollister animal rescue made their first court appearance Wednesday on charges of animal cruelty but failed to enter a plea and the judge ordered them not to possess any animals.
A Sulphur man accused of sexual abuse was also found to be involved with cruelty to animals.
More than two dozen large breed dogs were brought to Massachusetts from a small rescue organization in Texas.
The animals did not appear to be in medical distress and were given back to their owners the following day.
