Faculty petition to hold no-confidence vote in UT-Austin president after protest response

Fallout from police crackdowns on a pro-Palestinian demonstration at the University of Texas at Austin continued Thursday morning with faculty condemning the response, university leaders defending their actions and students organizing a second round of protests.

Houston Public Media—More than 200 faculty say they’ve lost confidence in UT Austin President Jay Hartzell. The UT Austin chapter of the American Association of University Professors is circulating a letter to gauge interest in a possible vote to censure President Hartzell. Faculty said they lost faith in him after he called in law enforcement to shut down a peaceful, pro-Palestinian protest.
