BATON ROUGE - A crew of firefighters put out flames coming from an unoccupied trailer along Hoo Shoo Too Road on Saturday evening. The St. George Fire Department said an unoccupied trailer caught fire around 6:45 p.m. and firefighters were able to control the fire within 30 minutes of arrival. A fire reportedly caused by an unattended grill did significant damage in Albemarle County on Saturday, destroying a structure and impacting multiple acres of forest.
The fire at the Market Lake Wildlife Management Area near Roberts is now fully contained. According to the Roberts Fire Department Chief, Jerry Vanleuven, over 100 acres of land was burned in the field. The fire was caused after a controlled fire got out of hand, due to windy conditions. No one was reported injured in the fire. Crews will continue to monitor the field this evening, while conducting spot checks around the perimeter.
