Have you ever thought much about the word “can?” Probably not. There are many uses for the word “can.” The “tin” can is one of the greatest inventions of all time. This, of course, is my own opinion. I really do not know the background of the can, but I know how useful, and prevalent it is in all of our lives. I remember as I was growing up, we always referred to any metal container as a tin can. Now, I think most cans are made of aluminum rather than tin, so now we would just call it a can.
