Black voters won a big victory in Louisiana. Some White voters said it violated their ‘personal dignity’

Nearly two years after a federal judge said that Louisiana’s congressional map diluted Black voting power, Black voters are at risk of voting for a second time in an election under a plan that likely violates the Voting Rights Act. The latest obstacle is a new ruling, issued by a different federal court, that held the state’s Republican legislature violated the Constitution when lawmakers added a second majority-African American district to the state’s six district congressional plan. The new...

  • Economy is top issue for US voters

The U.S. economy is one of the biggest issues for voters in the 2024 presidential contest between Joe Biden and Donald Trump. Biden campaigned this week on new tech investments. Trump says he will roll back Biden infrastructure spending and increase oil drilling. VOA's Scott Stearns has the story.

  • The more voters know, the more they like Joe Biden

New York Times political analyst Nate Cohn made an astute observation about a new Siena poll, which showed President Joe Biden trailing Donald Trump in most battleground states.   "If there's any consolation [for Biden], it's that the poll is also littered with evidence that folks aren't super tuned in, and disengaged voters remain Biden's weakness," Cohn tweeted.  It's an insight that will likely define the presidential contest moving forward. In the survey, for example, just 29% of...

  • Democrats love abortion more than their black voters

Democrats love abortion. A lot. In fact, given how frequently progressives claim black women are “victims” of abortion restrictions, it’s clear they love it more than their black voters. Joe Biden is making abortion a major campaign issue in this year’s election, and the party’s official X page tweets about it constantly. The vice president is equally bullish on using the issue to connect with female voters. Her husband, second gentleman Doug Emhoff, was recently in Atlanta to tell men —...

It is the first time since the survey began in 2012 that fewer than three in 10 people expressed

  • Biden Promised Normal. Do Voters Want His Version of It?

President Biden has argued for years that he is the politician to restore normalcy to American politics. But for almost as long, a subset of American voters, frustrated by everything from the economy to immigration policy, have argued that they do not want his version of it. The latest New York Times/Philadelphia Inquirer/Siena College poll in battleground states, released on Monday, showed that most voters still wanted to “bring politics in Washington back to normal.” But nearly 70 percent of...
