Two people are dead and four more injured after a shooting early Sunday morning at Market Square as Fiesta was winding down, according to San Antonio police. In a 2 a.m. tweet, San Antonio Police Department Chief William McManus said two suspects who fired shots at each other at Market Square had died and four other people received non-life threatening injuries. A pair of SAPD officers who fired on the suspects are uninjured, he said.

A detective with the Somerset Police Department has lost his job over accusations he injured a woman last week during a domestic dispute, KSAT reports. Bexar County deputies arrested detective Alvaro Ramirez III in far West Bexar County during the early morning hours of April 19 on a single misdemeanor charge of assault causing bodily injury-married, according to the TV station. Somerset is located southwest of San Antonio, just outside Loop 1604.

District 7 Councilwoman Marina Alderete Gavito on Tuesday filed a Council Consideration Request (CCR) to begin discussing new protections for birds including wild peacocks. CCRs, which must be approved by five members, are a significant first step in getting a measure to a vote before the whole council.

Utah-based customizable-beverage chain FiiZ Drinks has closed its first San Antonio outpost after just a year in business, a recent visit to the spot revealed. The Broadway corridor location opened in February 2023 and was followed by a satellite in Converse. San Antonio-based Santikos Theaters is bringing back free family movies this summer, trotting out two months of screenings of animated favorites including How to Train Your Dragon, Shrek 2 and Minions: The Rise of Gru. Beginning in June, the theater chain will offer its Free Summer Movies Series across all 26 of its locations, excluding its cinema in Fort Bliss. Cypress Cafe, the Korean restaurant that's operated from the basement of near-downtown office building Cypress Tower for 22 years, has been asked to move out by the structure's main tenant, San Antonio-based H-E-B, news site MySA reports. "Yes, unfortunately we were notified yesterday and [are] in the process of speaking with the building. We are incredibly grateful for Cypress Tower and H-E-B for all the years we have been here," a representative of the restaurant told MySA.
