Sony brought its smartphone lineup for an entire year in a single announcement this week and there are things we want to talk about.
Welcome to another week's recap. The biggest story of the week was Sony's triple announcement. The Japanese company unveiled the make III revisions of its Xperia 1, 5 and 10 smartphones, which will come to market in early summer.
Sony knows how to make desirable products – last week’s poll shows that the new Xperia Mark III models have enticed the audience. But the audience has some concerns about the pricing, it’s the same story as last year.
In the past couple of years, Sony has followed an unusual strategy of announcing phones without pricing and availability. The same applies to the recently announced Xperia 1 III but now we have our second hint at pricing for the top dog in Sony’s mobile division thanks to a listing in a Chinese online shop.
While Huawei and OnePlus had to look for outside help with their cameras (Leica and Hasselblad, respectively), Sony already has an excellent camera division in house – the engineers that build its Alpha cameras. They worked on the Mark II flagships last year and as well as the new Xperia 1 III and 5 III.
Sony ushered in its new Xperia lineup last week and now it has been revealed the midrange Xperia 10 III is getting an exclusive yellow color Docomo online shop. The Japanese carrier usually teams up with Sony on limited edition colorways. Reservations for the exclusive Xperia 10 III are already underway while the date of the first sale is still not finalized.
The Sony Xperia 1 III and 5 III were announced in a virtual event and continue Sony's focused appeal toward creative types, photographers and audiophiles.
When it comes to phones, Sony follows the beat of a different drummer – months after the first Snapdragon 888 flagships hit the market, the Japanese tech giant announced that it will release its own flagships in early summer.
