EU Court of Justice warns Meta against using data such as sexual orientation for ads

Neowin— Meta has been warned for using users' publicly available information, such as sexual orientation details, for targeted advertising, which violates GDPR rules that require explicit user consent.

MediaNama—European Court of Justice shares opinion on Meta ads targeting users based on sexuality. The case in question is one filed by Maximilian Schrems in 2020 in which he claimed that while he had consented to Meta collecting his data through its advertising model, he was unlawfully targeted by ads based on his sexuality.
