Conservation slowing biodiversity loss, scientists say

BBC News— A first-of-its-kind study shows conservation is worth investing in, researchers say.

Phys.org—First-of-its-kind study shows that conservation actions are effective at halting and reversing biodiversity loss. A study published April 25, in the journal Science provides the strongest evidence to date that not only is nature conservation successful, but that scaling conservation interventions up would be transformational for halting and reversing biodiversity loss—a crisis that can lead to ecosystem collapses and a planet less able to support life—and reducing the effects of climate change.

Phys.org—Researchers say nature recovery must be integrated across all sectors to bend the curve of biodiversity loss. The alarming rates of biodiversity loss worldwide have made clear that the classical way of governing biodiversity recovery based on protected areas and programs for the protection of endangered species is not enough. To tackle this, almost 200 countries committed to the active 'mainstreaming' or integration of biodiversity targets into policies and plans across relevant sectors.
